ABOUT THE FARM Jim & Judi Brady are the owners of Rusty Acres Herb Farm. The farm is located in Rainbow just northeast of Fallbrook and south of Temecula, California. We established the farm on the 9-acre parcel in July of 1999. The farm was named after our cat " Rusty". Rusty was going to join us at Rusty Acres, but a coyote provided for his early retirement. He joins us in spirit. We miss him - see his photos below. Everything at the farm is grown organically to protect the environment. Our main focus is on Lavender, although many other herbs, vegetables and fruits are also grown. We currently have approximately 140 varieties of Lavender and are adding more as they become available. Lavender is used for aromatherapy because of its calming effect, but is also a great culinary herb and is very therapeutic to the skin. We also grow many varieties of heirloom tomatoes, peppers, onions, potatoes, cucumbers, corn, squash, melons, berries and fruit and nuts. From these we manufacture our gourmet food products and spice blends. Our body products are also made from the Lavender and other herbs grown on the farm. We sell heirloom tomatoes and other vegetable plants in the spring and Lavender and Herb Plants all year long. We have a Gift Shop on the farm. We welcome groups to visit the farm for an educational day and we can provide a BBQ meal for a small charge. We are frequent speakers at local Garden Clubs and other groups interested in learning more about Lavender or Herbs. We are actively promoting Agro-tourism in the area including our Rusty Acres and other Rainbow area farms to educate the public about the agricultural items grown in our area. Jim Brady was an Electrical Engineer for several Southern California aerospace firms for the past 38 years, but an avid gardener most of his life. Judi was born in a greenhouse in New Jersey where her parents owned a large garden center and two florist shops. She has been an accountant for 38 years and a restaurant owner and caterer for 20 years on a part time basis. A lot of the knowledge gained as children is now helpful in the Brady’s new endeavors.
CAUTION: The terrain at Rusty Acres is difficult due to the steep slopes and gravel/dirt paths. We cannot change what Mother Nature has provided, thus good walking shoes are advised and it is suggested, for your own safety, that you consider the difficulty of the area and your own (or your guests) walking capabilities prior to scheduling a visit to the farm.
Below are a few pictures of Rusty
in his prime!
While we will always miss Rusty, we now have Lavender and Wellington to help us with the farm. Recent photo's of the two are shown below:
